Clio Winner "Grrr"

I just went on an outing to watch the Clio winners with a group of friends from my university. I have to say it was a great time and there were amazing campagins, funny, emotional, intrusive, and exceptional, they all were.

As I reflect to the Grand winner of Honda "Grrr" where they Hate the 'old' diesel and decide to Change it to a better diesel engine, I begin to like what I see. When I saw it, inital reaction was these guys were smoking something very good. But now that I think about it. It was very well executed. The music/lyrics were great, the animation was well done, and they delievered that the old engines are bad for the enironment. Mother nature doesn't want them and nor does honda, so they will Change it to a better engine. I am slowly, slowly starting to like this campaign more and more. I have to definatly watch it more to critic it a bit better.

Are you being serious? Grr is one of the best advertisements ever. At the heart of it is a piece of simple yet brilliant thinking and it is executed to the highest level. To say that it won because it was a fresh look in a dull category is to belittle it to the extreme. Of course it was that but that is one of the many factors that went into it deservedly winning the top prize

Yes i am serious. So what, wanna fight about it? It's just honda trying to make you feel good about them. Brilliant thinking? I dont think so. They don't like their old diesel engines, so what? It should be a given that car companies try to innovate new and more environmental friendly cars.

i smell jealousy. I think you know that you're wrong. It is a given that car companies try to innovate new and more "environmental" cars. What isnt a given is that most car companies dont celebrate the fact that hate can be a positive thing. So yes of course you feel good about Honda. Thats whats called successful advertising.

Grrr is really a brilliant spot. I think the agency was really struggling to move beyond Cog both creatively and strategically and hit upon this as a great new way to express Honda's commitment to innovation and the environment.

Anonymous posters are panzies, by the way.

I'd rather be a "panzy" than a twat.

I've just caught up with this debate and have enjoyed following it. I work at the agency responsible for the ad and it's great to see it provoking some debate. If there's one thing we were trying to do it's to provoke people to think a wee bit more deeply than the average ad does.
So, anonymous, it's fine to hate 'Grrr'. Especially if it inspires you to do something better.
